North Arkansas Kennel Club is offering the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program
at our training facility located at 825 E Main Street, Flippin, AR 72634.
Class starts March 31, 2025 – May 5, 2025 (6-week class)
NAKC, instructor Lila Bauwens, offers the new American Kennel Club® (AKC) training program geared towards puppies and their owners. The AKC S.T.A.R.sm Puppy Program rewards responsible owners who take the time to train and socialize their new puppies. The program is a natural precursor to the AKC Canine Good Citizen® Test. “S.T.A.R.” stands for Socialization, Training, Activity, and a Responsible owner, all things a puppy needs to have a good life.
The state of Arkansas has recently passed a resolution endorsing the AKC Canine Good Citizen program, recognizing that responsible dog ownership is the key to resolving problems in the community. It is their hope to diminish the number of dogs relinquished to shelters through the education offered by the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program.
To get started, enroll in the NAKC S.T.A.R. Puppy training class. Classes will include valuable training tips for puppy owners – such as how to housetrain – and lessons on practical skills for puppies – such as coming when called. The program is open to all purebred and mix-breed puppies. Puppies can begin training as soon as they have the necessary vaccines and they can enroll in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy at any point up until their first birthday. At the completion of the 6-week training course, the instructor will administer the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy test. Upon passing, owners and their puppies will be enrolled in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program. On the application form for completing the class, the owner can choose one of the following options of the S.T.A.R. program:
- AKC title ($32 AKC title processing fee through the AKC Title Application Portal)
- The S.T.A.R. Certificate only (No AKC fee’s)
