Join us at North Arkansas Kennel Club (NAKC) for an official AKC Canine Good Citizen® (CGC) test and/or the AKC Community Canine (Advanced) test on September 27th.
The CGC program is a 10-skill, non-competitive test that focuses on responsible dog ownership and rewarding dogs that have good manners at home and in the community.
AKC Community Canine expands on the CGC skills and lays the beginning foundation for obedience, rally, and therapy dog work. Must have a CGC certificate or title on record at AKC and have an AKC Number, PAL number, or Canine Partners number. Location: NAKC Training Center, 825 E Main Street, Flippin, AR 72634. Next door to the Dollar General Store.
Cost: $15.00 per test. Club members will receive a discount.
Open to all dogs! All dogs are welcome to participate, including purebreds and mixed breeds. Open to the public and club members. Pre-registration requested. A basic obedience class or training is needed to pass the testing requirements. - Accepting a friendly stranger
- Sitting politely for petting
- Appearance and grooming
- Out for a walk (walking on a loose leash)
- Walking through a crowd
- Sit and down on cue and staying in place
- Coming when called
- Reaction to another dog
- Reaction to distractions
- Supervised separation (3 minutes)
CGCA – Ready for the Community Canine 10 Skills?

- Dog sits or lies down and waits under control
- Walks on a loose leash in a natural situation (not in a ring) and does not pull
- Walks on a loose leash through a crowd
- Dog walks past distraction dogs present and does not pull
- Sit-stay in a small group (3 other people with dogs)
- Dog allows a person who is carrying something to approach and pet it
- Dog walks by food and follows owner instructions, “Leave it”
- Down or sit stay-distance (owner’s choice)
- Recall (coming when called) with distractions present
- Dog will enter/exit a doorway or passageway with owner and remain under control
Requirements to participate
- Dogs must be healthy and have a valid rabies certificate. Bring a copy of the rabies certificate to the test.
- Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled test time to register.
- No retractable leashes are allowed during the test.

- To pre-register: Email cjtitus@gmail.com or info@northarkansaskennelclub.org with your name, dog’s name, and which test(s) you would like to be tested on by an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator. We will respond with testing requirements and information. A testing schedule will be set up for CGC & CGCA testing.
- Walk-ins are welcome but will be evaluated on a first-come, first-served basis.
